For the agency:
‘Resourcing Green Practice’ is a series of professional development ‘bites’ for your staff. These are produced by Place Consultancy, who has been contracted by your agency to facilitate environmental sustainability strategy.
The ‘Resourcing Green Practice’ units are designed to fit in with your normal staff communications, so feel free to adapt the format to suit. They cover a breadth of topics related to social services and environmental sustainability.
There is no set order for these resources. You can ‘pick and choose’ which you consider to be most relevant for your team.
I would love to hear feedback from you and your staff about the resource. It is still developing, and it would be great for it to address the issues that you are grappling with.
An initial welcome to staff:
Welcome to ‘Resourcing Green Practice’. These short resources will be coming through over the next few months, as part of your professional development. They will cover a range of topics, exploring aspects of environmental sustainability, such as:
• mental health and hauora, e.g. impact of climate change
• social work practice and theory
• youth perspectives and youth work
• practical steps for reducing waste
• preparing for climate change
• cultural perspectives
Each resource includes an on-line link – a video to watch, a podcast to listen to, or an article to read – and questions to encourage discussion and reflection. It might take you about half an hour. The goal is to get you thinking ‘outside the box’ about the place of the environment in your work. The resources aim to connect with you personally, professionally, and collectively as teams. The starting assumption is that every field of social service practice can be enhanced by developing ‘green’ skills so that our work cares for our planet as well as our people.
